A 3D model of a Saint Laurent diamond-quilted leather mini bag. The handbag is in real-life scale with shiny calf leather, bronze, and golden metal details. The logo is debossed with gold-tone lettering.
The project was an assignment in the hiring process for a 3D artist role at Alpha3D. Unfortunately, the company had to close its doors before the hiring process was finished.






Process
I started by modelling the handbag with big shapes and then added more detail to the mesh. It was important that the mesh lines followed the seam, and so some retopology was done after modelling. For the strap, zipper and chains, I used array and curve modifiers in Blender.
There could only be one 2K UV map, so I unwrapped it in smaller pieces, and I piled the islands on top of eachother to maximise texture quality.
The requirements for the 3D model were as follows:
- Triangle count up to 150 000
- Albedo, Normal and ORM (Occlusion Roughness Metallic) textures 2K and one UV set
- Output file as an embedded texture. GLTF with a maximum size of 30 MB
- The 3D model should have a real-world size
- The 3D model should be placed on the ground and have the pivot point at the origin (0,0,0)
- The whole outside of the handbag should be modelled as photorealistic as possible according to the reference images
