This project aims to communicate the beauty of science through animation and focuses on the asexual reproduction of centric diatom. I used the marine diatom genus Arachnoidiscus as a reference.
Diatoms are composed of an epitheca and hypotheca which resemble two “lids” that enclose the cell. During asexual reproduction, mitosis occur as well as the formation of new epithecas that serve as new “bottom lids” for the existing thecas. In this way, a new identical cell is made.
